The material that best suits any particular window’s screen varies depending on a number of factors and on personal choice. Aluminum window screens are strong, but also darken the appearance of the window and let less light into the home. Fiberglass is somewhat stronger still, and more durable, but generally darkens the area even more than aluminum window screens. Bronze window screens are extremely durable and effective, but their cost can be prohibitive for most consumers. Window screens made of synthetic plastics are inexpensive and don’t darken windows as much, but they also won’t stand up to the same level of abuse and will need to be replaced more often.
